Specialty Electronic Substrates

Since the 1960's Sheldahl has been at the forefront of research into and production of thin film coatings on flexible substrates.  This technology has led to development of high performance substrates for our customers.  The combination of thin, conductive coatings on flexible substrates has proven especially valuable in audio markets where these products have been used in microphones and loudspeakers. Vacuum deposited copper on PET and PEN provides a cost effective substrate for RFID and smart card applications.

Thermal Control Coatings on Flexible Substrates

Controlling the temperature of a spacecraft is a challenging task.  During orbital day, temperatures become oppressively hot.  During orbital night, outer space makes a day at the South Pole seem positively balmy. 

Sheldahl's thermal control materials have provided a light weight, passive approach to control the temperature of nearly every satellite launched in the free world since the mid-1960s.  These materials can be supplied in large sheets, wide rolls, and specialty tapes. 

Custom Laminates

Sheldahl can combine its expertise in vacuum coating, adhesive chemistry, and laminating technology to develop custom laminates to meet a variety of applications.  These capabilities are often used to create reinforced versions of Sheldahl's standard thermal control products.
