Purpose of CAD Standards
Customers that provide CAD information in a clear and understandable format will enable Sheldahl to:
- Quote accurately and quickly
- Minimize data conversion problems
- Fabricate prototype and pre-production parts quickly
Ideal Formatting
Prints will contain:
- Manufacturing specs
- Cross-sectional views of lay-up configuration
- Company name
- Part number
- Contact and phone number
- Detail drawing showing dimensions
Primary acceptable file formats include:
- Prints and specs . . AutoCAD DXF or ASCII
- Part data. . . . . . . . RS274X
- Drill data. . . . . . . . RS274X or any excellon format
Secondary acceptable file formats include:
- Gerber RS-274G, Any Gerber data with Aperture List
- MDAout
- AutoCAD DWG
- IGI Post
- Trudril
- GDSII
- HPGL
- IGES
Establishing a universal format that Sheldahl engineers and customers can understand reduces confusion. The following layer convention is suggested for AutoCAD DXF files.
